Invisible Ink Experiment

What You'll Need

  • Baking Soda
  • Water
  • White Paper
  • Light Bulb (not Halogen)
  • Q-Tip or Paintbrush
  • Purple Grape Juice

Mix equal parts baking soda and water. Dip a Q-tip or paintbrush into your "ink" and write your message on your paper. Allow the "ink" to dry for 3-5 minutes. To read the message, hold your paper to a heat source such as a light bulb. You don't want to start a fire, so be sure not to hold the paper too close. As the baking soda dries it will turn brown and make the message readable. Another way to read your message is to paint the paper with purple grape juice. Your message will magically appear!
